There are three types of betting limits in poker: 1. There is no maximum limit to bet/raise in this format. You can bet your entire chip stack in any betting round on your turn. The minimum bet size in this format is the big blind. The minimum raise is equal to the previous bet or raise. If that player places a bet (minimum bet is equal to the big blind), then subsequent players can fold, call or raise. To call is to match the amount the previous player has bet. A raise is an increase on the previous bet. For example, if the big blind was 2, it would cost other players 2 to call, or at least 4 to raise. All such games have a minimum bet as well as the stated maximums, and also commonly a betting unit, which is the smallest denomination in which bets can be made. For example, it is common for games with $20 and $40 betting limits to have a minimum betting unit of $5, so that all bets must be in multiples of $5, to simplify game play. During the 1960’s, Texas Hold’em came to Las Vegas, Nevada where it quickly became popular at the Golden Nugget Casino. Before Hold’em, the main game played was Draw Poker, which only allowed two bets. Because Hold’em allowed for four bets, there was opportunity for bigger winnings and strategic play. Texas Hold'em No-limit and pot-limit games, without exception. In limit games, when there are three or more players involved and all players have not gone all-in, games with two betting rounds (draw or lowball) will allow a bet, plus four raises. In a game which involves three or more betting rounds, the maximum raises allowed are three.

No Limit and Pot Limit is said to be the purest form of Poker. The general game structure and rules of No Limit and Pot Limit games are identical to those of Limited games, with two very notable exceptions: There is no Lower Limit Stake or Higher Limit Stake at the table and no Cap to the Betting Rounds. Instead, the minimum and maximum amounts that players are permitted to wager are according to No Limit and Pot Limit Betting Rules/Structure.
